Resources – Useful Tools to Enhance your Health
It’s recommended that you equip yourself with at least the basics for cooking food at home. The key to adherence is having cookware and accessories that make your life easier, so that you’re able to easily produce meals quickly and easily – and wash up quickly!
The OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner is the ‘must have’. It’s not the cheapest but it’s the best – and you are going to enjoy cooking, then it’s a great investment. If it saves you ordering just 1 take away, it will have paid for itself.
This is the best seller on Amazon in the category, and it’s something you will need to be prepared. It’s got a nice solid base, which makes it stable and the actual spinner is a decent size so you can make salads that do you justice, and it’s very easy to clean!
Knives are essential, and good knives even more so! A lot of people don’t pay attention to their knives, but they are important because they make preparation easy and, at times, fun!
Knives that quickly become blunt make preparation of fruit and vegetables a chore; preparation should not be a chore!
The good news is you don’t need to go out and spend a small fortune on knives, just a sensible set will suffice and last you at least a year.
Included in this recommended set:
- 19 cm chefs knife
- 19 cm bread knife
- 19 cm carving knife
- 13 cm multi purpose knife
- 9 cm paring knife
You will peel, and often!
This Swiss engineered peeler is extremely efficient at peeling all vegetables and is an essential bit of kit to have around.
With 2 blades, a straight and a serrated blade it enables you to make very thin slices or more creative cuts – a ‘must have’.
Chopping Boards perhaps aren’t the most exciting culinary items out there, but they are important and since you’ll be preparing delicious foods, it does make sense to use a nice board. Plastic boards are better suited to being washed at high temperatures, and in commercial kitchens, whereas bamboo boards are much better for home use.
They’re also far far better for the environment, yours and the wider world around you!
Decent utensils just make life easier – this set includes:
1 Slotted Spoon, 1 Slotted Spatula, 1 Flexible Turner, 1 Ladle, 1 Solid Spoon, 1 Spaghetti Server – all useful stuff, and couple with a decent set of frying pans, really make cooking, and cleaning quick!
These are not necessarily reflective of any Intelligent Eating programme, however, they will help raise your awareness.
Forks over knives
This film released in 2011 brought plant based living to mainstream. Whilst it received a lot of criticism, irrefutably it encourages thought around the relationship between food and heath.
The film has spawned a huge website as well as some great cookbooks. All are available on Amazon, the movie is also available on Netflix.
Also from 2011, this film follows 3 Americans who adopt a vegan diet and the effects on their life, and health.
A clever documentary that has sufficient humour to keep your attention! The outcomes go far beyond the initial intentions, sensible viewing – typically available on Netflix.
Extremely good, shocking footage, cleverly produced and a wake up call to the environment we have created. Somewhat amateur but in a way that appeals rather than is off putting; this is a powerful documentary that provokes thought long after viewing.
When this was released in 2014 it made a lot of impact for the sheer passion of the cause – the website offers a huge resource.
This movie from 2005 is brutal, raw, and coarse. Most people struggle to watch this documentary, which shows the harsh reality of the meat and dairy industry. This movie turns many vegan, and for those who don’t – it often causes huge internal conflict.
Think hidden cameras, and little editing.
